How to Spend 4 Days in South Beach Miami

A Guide to a Weekend in South Beach Miami

Let me just say this, I am a Florida girl and in all my years I have not found the time to make it down the coast to Miami until now and I have to say: absolutely amazing!

I thought Miami was all about spring break loud and sloppy college kids but instead of letting the stereotypes discourage me I decided to give it a try for myself. After doing some research and actually experiencing the place for myself, I have to say I definitely will visit Miami again.

My Thoughts on Miami

Miami reminded me very much of an island getaway. Definitely Fun in the Sun vibes. Grab a drink, enjoy the sand in your toes, eat some food, do some shopping, and flop down in your hotel room at the end of the day, burnt out, wake up and repeat.

Miami is definitely a fun place to be, it doesn’t have to be a spring break hell of a time but you can make Miami what you please.

How to Get There?

By Air (Miami Airport/Ft. Lauderdale Airpot) – Miami has it’s own airport but many , depending on where you’re coming from, fly into Ft. Lauderdale airport. Check which airport is cheapest for you and keep in mind transportation time to and from these airports.

By Bus – If you live in Florida i.e. Tampa or Orlando I would recommend buying a cheap bus ticket and hunkering down for a couple hours. Think of it as a fun solo road trip where you don’t have to drive.

Where to Sleep?

Art Deco Hotel

The famous Miami strips like Collins Ave and Ocean Drive are notorious for their art deco style. Try out one of these cool quirky styled hotels for a unique Miami experience.

The Delano Hotel

Luxury Stays

If artsy isn’t your thing you can also try one of the many other beautiful hotels on or close to the Miami strip. There are so many others I couldn’t possibly tell you these were the only ones I liked, but for the sake of getting to the point and keeping it short. These were the other two I considered booking.

The One

The Edition

On a Budget

Like any other popular cities, there are new and trendy hostels popping up everywhere.

How to Get Around?

Uber/Lyft Pool – I was glad to learn that the top ride-sharing apps feature pool in Miami. I learned about the pooling feature on my trip to LA with some friends and it helped us save a lot of money on transport.

Hop on Hop Off Trolly/Busses –  I call these trollies because the interior design is very adorable and isn’t like a traditional city transport bus. Super amazing for getting to all the notorious spots around South Beach. Be aware they can get really packed with other tourists and don’t forget to double check times, drop off spots, and make sure you’re getting on the correct line.

Rent a Car – I would only suggest this if you are going to check out other attractions outside and around the Miami area. Otherwise, everything is in pretty walkable/ cheap ubering distance. I also have no idea where you would find parking.

Things to Do?

The Basement at the Edition – Such an Instagram spot! The cutest bowling alley AND ice skating rink! This is amazng if you’re on a girls trip or with a group of friends in Miami.

Pro Tip: Don’t confuse this with the nightclub! Double check your maps, I just saved you the cost of an Uber ride, you’re welcome.

Miami Boardwalk – It is long. If you’re like me and you’re all about the perfect place to set up shop and lay out on the beach, I love this boardwalk for finding the perfect option. Also good from strolling, bike riding, rollerblading, whatever suits your fancy!

South Beach Miami – Because this is essentially why Miami exists! Just kidding but “when in Rome” right?

Ocean Drive & Art Deco District  – Running alongside Miami’s southern beaches, it is the liveliest part of Miami I have experienced by far. It is a super cool atmosphere if you like lounging around in your bikini, cocktails, good music, and food. Definitely an Adults Only paradise.

Collins Ave – Shopping, lots of shopping. For me, this is so amazing! Beach, shopping, and food all in a decent radius. Another lively strip down which to take a stroll.

Wynwood Walls – I know this is probably so overdone but seriously, one word: Beautiful! Honestly, the artist featured are so talented. If you love art this is a must see. Also, the Instagram photos aren’t too bad either haha

Pro Tip: The area of Wynwood also has art all around the neighborhood. Beautiful and so handy if you’re looking for unconventional photo ops.

Lincoln Road Mall – This is more like an outdoor mall just so you don’t get too excited about seeking relief from the Miami heat here. Nonetheless, I absolutely loved it ( I had many beautiful days on my trip), I even ended up making a purchase. Again, if you like strolling and browsing, definitely recommend!

Things I Did Not Get To Do but Recommend Trying

South Point Park

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

Sunrise Yoga – For more info: 3rd Street Beach Yoga

Food Tours

Helicopter Tour

**Design District – I only got the chance to drive past this however,  This area looked so beautiful. This is where you’ll find the higher end shops, heart eyes!

Perez Art Museum – While you’re in the Design District area go ahead and visit the Perez Art Museum.

Little Havana – I am all about experiencing different culture and I am sorry I missed it. Hopefully we get to go to Cuba soon *wink wink*.

Brickell/ Downtown Miami – I got to see Brickell in my Uber pool on the way back to the airport and the views from the bridge between downtown and south beach were amazing, especially at night. I would definitely suggest checking out the off the beaten path shops, bars, and whatever else you can find in this area. I.e. Bayside Market Place.

Miami Surrounding Areas Things to Do

Key West – Keep the adventure going and drive down to Key West over the ocean highway.

Up the Coast – Check out more beautiful beaches up the coast around Fort Lauderdale.

 Where to Eat?

I did a lot of eating at my hotel and in the random surrounding areas ( no Reviews! I know, I was feeling adventurous). Super unhealthy for my body and my pockets but what can I say, Miami makes you want to throw your worries away. Here are a few places to satisfy your Instagram food feed:

The Salty Donut – Near Wynwood, be careful or you may end up standing in line as I did. I can’t tell you the best time to go but just be prepared and not surprised if end up like me.

Pura Vida

Elle Taco

Azucar

What about Drinks?

The Broken Shaker

Sugar at EAST

Kimpton EPIC Hotel
